Personal Narrative

Reflection

For my paper I didn’t really have a plan, I just wrote what came into mind. However, that turned out to not go as planned. Before we wrote the paper, I was thinking a week before we were going to write about what topic I was going to write about. When I was writing the essay I was struggling to write about the topic. I wanted to try writing both about the language barrier and the cultural strain between me and my father but that made it all the more difficult to get my ideas onto the paper. I wished before writing the first draft that I created a planning guide for myself like what I always do when I have a writing assignment. That’s what I did after writing the first draft and this helped me narrow down into writing about the language barrier. I decided to mainly write about the language barrier because it was one of the main things I could write about and also I understand the importance and themes that language has in the book Call It Sleep. With this it also helped with me writing more sensory details. The peer review activity helped me a lot because on my first draft I was struggling with writing a topic that I was trying to go for but after reading my peers first draft it inspired me to rewrite it and focus mainly on language just like David when he went to the United States. The feedback that I gave them I also implemented with the feeding that I received from them. I started focusing on the language barrier instead of the cultural strain between me and my father. The feedback that my peer review gave me that helped me with writing my personal narrative was to have a better explanation and to go into more depth on what things from your parents made you feel that way. I also implemented feedback that I gave my peer reviewer for my new paper which was an example of times where people wouldn’t reciprocate what you were saying. I would say with the feedback received it helped me compose an even stronger narrative.
